Grain-Based DEM for Particle Bed Comminution

چکیده
The comminution at the grain size level for liberating valuable minerals usually requires highest size-specific energy. Therefore, a full understanding of process this is essential. Models based on Discrete Element Method (DEM) can become helpful tool purpose. One major concern, however, missing representativeness mineral microstructures in simulations. In study, method to overcome limitation presented. authors show how realistic microstructure be implemented into particle bed simulation using grain-based models DEM (GBM-DEM). improved algorithm-based modeling approach exemplarily compared an equivalent real experiment. simulated results obtained within presented study that it possible reproduce interfacial breakage observed experiments level. This particular interest as aim processing not only reduction coarse particles, but often efficient liberation components. Simulations with automatically generated will help further improve efficiency ore processing.

Texture-based Liberation Models for Comminution
The relation between breakage mechanisms and liberation is critical in mineral processing. Recent studies underline the importance of texture in liberation. This study reviews relevant liberation models and proposes a new method for generating particles using image processing algorithms. One new texture simulation method and its relevance for liberation simulation is also introduced.
متن کاملSheared granular layers: Competition between flash heating and particle comminution
Quantitatively predicting the dynamic response and energy partition of granular fault gouges under shear remains a major challenge in seismology. Earthquake laboratory experiments are limited by capacity of equipments and thus cannot provide similar conditions in real earthquake ruptures. This motivates the development of computational models of granular fault gouge that accurately predict thei...
متن کاملParallel Open Source Cfd-dem for Resolved Particle-fluid Interaction
In the following paper we present a parallelized resolved method for the simulation of the dynamics of immersed bodies within fluids. The algorithm uses the so called Fictitious Domain Method (FDM) and combines the Lagrangian Discrete Element Method (DEM) for the tracking of the bodies and a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) method for the calculation of the flow and pressure field of the flui...
متن کاملImage-based Lagrangian Particle Tracking in Bed-load Experiments
Image analysis has been increasingly used for the measurement of river flows due to its capabilities to furnish detailed quantitative depictions at a relatively low cost. This manuscript describes an application of particle tracking velocimetry (PTV) to a bed-load experiment with lightweight sediment. The key characteristics of the investigated sediment transport conditions were the presence of...
متن کاملAssessment of a Particle Bed Based Beam Stop
Accelerator target/beam stop concepts able to withstand the thermal shock induced by intense, undiluted beams are being assessed in this study. Such conditions normally push target materials beyond their limits leading to limited useful life. A number of ingenious options have been attempted to help reduce the level of stress generated. Attention is paid to a very promising option that calls fo...
